Peter Cundall's Vegie Patch

Tasmanian gardening guru and ABC's Gardening Australia TV celebrity, Peter Cundall works his wonders in a specially made vegetable patch designed by Gardens staff.

It's here that Peter's Vegie Patch segments are produced for Gardening Australia - you can learn the best way to mulch your spuds, stake your tomatoes and make compost, Cundall-style.

Organic gardening principles are adhered to in the Patch, with the soil naturally enriched by the addition of animal and green manures and compost. The six main beds are designed on a six-year crop rotation system, where the same plant or crop or its botanical relatives are never planted in the same place two years in a row. This is to prevent the build up of pests and diseases and to keep the soil healthy.
