The Friends' Mixed Border

Stage Two of The Friends Mixed Border is Underway

The Friends' Mixed Border has been formed by The Friends' Mixed Border extending and refurbishing the old herbaceous border along the northern end of the historic Eardley-Wilmot wall. It incorporates a number of new beds and a wide variety of plantings, and will eventually include around 300 roses as well as bedding plants and perennials.

Roses are displayed on wall trellises, pergolas, archways and tripods, and will be balanced and complimented by perennials to give a long flowering season. The first stage of the Friends Mixed Border was opened in November 2006.

Stage two is now approaching the implementation stage. On completion the border will extend up to and around the Fuchsia House, creating another large outdoor entertainment area within the Gardens.

This development is made possible by individual plant sponsorship and a $15,000 donation by the Friends of the RTBG. The funds were raised by the voluntary efforts of the Friends, including propagating and selling plants, giving guided tours and other fundraising activities.

You can make a significant contribution to you Botanical Gardens with many sponsorship opportunities from individual plants through to memorial chairs and archways. Simply contact our sponsorship coordinator on 03 6236 3055 for more information.
