Where is Peter Cundall's Vegie Garden?

The Vegetable Garden, which features on ABC's Gardening Australia program, is located near the Cactus House and is open to visitors.

Can we get married in the Gardens?

Yes you can get married in the gardens. There are many beautiful sites to hold a wedding ceremony. The cost is just $110 for outdoor locations and $220 for hire of the Conservatory, which is available at the start of August through to the end of May. Bookings should be made at least 3 months in advance by phone on (03) 6236 3050 or weekdays.

Is there a sheltered area where groups can meet?

The Gardens has a small open air Gazebo for groups of 10 or fewer and Wombat One, our open plan shelter, has room for up to 20. Bookings are not required for these shelters so it is first in first served.

For more formal meetings the Training Centre in the Easy Access Garden is available for hire. Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning: 03 6236 3050 during business hours.

Is there an entry fee to the Gardens?

No, entry to the Gardens is free except for special events, however donations are gratefully received and may be left in the collection boxes at the entrances to the Gardens.

Donations over $2 are tax deductible and can be made at the Visitor Centre or Administration Office (phone 03 6236 3050). All proceeds go to support the Gardens. For more information view the Support the Gardens page for more information.

The Conservatory

When is the Conservatory open?

The Conservatory is open daily, except for the cooler months (July-August) when it is closed for maintenance. Each season features a new floral display. Donation only.

Can we see Huon Pines at the Gardens?

Yes the Gardens has several Huon pines. They are only small trees as this is not their natural habitat and they are very slow growing. You will find them in our Tasmanian Collection and in the Fernery.

Are there paths suitable for wheelchairs?

The easy access pathway from the top entrance of the Gardens to the Visitor Centre is graded especially for wheelchairs. Other paths throughout the Gardens are also suitable. Wheelchairs may be booked free of charge at the Visitor Centre. Bookings can be made on 03 6236 3076.
